Little Crater Lake: A hidden gem in Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory. Located a bit northeast of Timothy Lake off of Forest Road 58, Little Crater Lake is a spring-fed, pool measuring 100 feet across with unbelievably clear water. As you stand on the banks it almost looks like you could touch the bottom; which would be a feat considering it’s 45 feet deep. That clear water is also rather chilly as the spring that feeds it also maintains it at a steady 34 degrees throughout the year. Unlike many other features in the area, like the much larger, more famous lake with a similar name, Little Crater Lake is born not of volcanic origins but through the simple process of water slowly dissolving through limestone. The end result is a beautiful little sapphire gem in the Mt. Hood National Forest.
