Gisteren was het Chinese Midherfstfestival (Zhongqiu Jie), de meest vrolijke Chinese feestdag. Het is een feest ter ere van de maan en de dankbaarheid voor de oogst. Het feest gaat 3000 jaar terug! Men eet maankoeken (yeu-bing), die met hun ronde vorm de maan en de familiehereniging symboliseren. De koeken zijn gevuld met lotuszaad, fruit, amandelen, sinaasappelschil en ei. Ze zijn alleen in deze periode te koop. De haas op de doos is het haasje in de maan. In Nederland zien we een mannetje in de maan, Chinezen zien een haas. Ik kreeg deze prachtige doos met maankoeken vandaag van mijn Chinese leerlingen. Yesterday was the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhongqiu Jie), the most joyous Chinese holiday. It is a feast in honor of the moon and gratitude for the harvest. The feast goes back 3000 years! People eat moon cakes (yeu-bing), which, with their round shape, symbolize the moon and family reunion. The cakes are filled with lotus seed, fruit, almonds, apple peel and egg. You can buy them only during this period. The hare on the box is the hare in the moon. In the West we see a person in the moon, Chinese see a hare. I got this beautiful box with moon cakes from my Chinese students today.
