Haunted

18 december, 2013
The name of Gunnuhver is derived from the ghost of Guðrún Önundardóttir (nicknamed Gunna), who is mentioned in the public cencus of 1703, a crofter near Kirkjuból in the town of Sandgerði. Her croft was owned by the lawyer Vilhjálmur Jónsson and when Gunna failed to pay the rent Vilhjálmur took away her only property, a cooking pot. This mad Gunna mad with fury and to seek revenge. She died shortly after. On the way to the cemetery the men who carried Gunna´s coffin noticed that it became suspiciously lighter. And while the grave was being dug, the people heard: „ No need deep to dig, no plans long to lie.” And obviously this was Gunna talking, now a hateful specter. A following night the body of Vilhjálmur was found on the heath, blue and with broken bones. This could only mean the revenge of Gunna.Gunna now caused a great disturbance in the area, until a priest set a trap for her which ultimately led to her falling into the hot spring. Until this day Gunna is supposed to be stuck down underneath the hot spring.
