Cross towers

Cross Towers: An Icon in Amsterdam Nestled in the Vivaldi area of Amsterdam's Zuidas business district, the Cross Towers stand just meters away from the A10, at Antonio Vivaldistraat. This impressive structure serves as the headquarters for the professional service firm Ernst & Young. Originally named Drentestaete III at its inauguration, the building is renowned for its silver diagonal crossbeams on the facade. From a distance, these beams resemble stacked crosses, giving rise to the nickname 'Cross Towers', which later became its official name. Designed by the acclaimed Foster and Partners, the building's H-shaped structure with unequal legs maximizes natural daylight, making it about 10% more energy-efficient than the standard for new offices in the Netherlands. It's also equipped with sustainable features like 'intelligent' energy-efficient elevators, a green roof, and a rainwater collection system that reuses 65% of the water within the building. During its construction, which began in 2005 and concluded in 2008, the building faced several setbacks, including a collapsed parking garage and storm damage to the facade panels, resulting in a delay of over six months.
