Remembering...
In the Netherlands there are more and more re-enactment groups focussed on the American Airborne troops of World War 2.
Triple A has a special interest in the 506th PIR 101st Airborne Division 2nd Battalion in particular. It was formed of two re-enactorgroups: "Dutch Currahees" (506th PIR Easy Company) and "Rendez vous with Destiny" (506th PIR Fox Company). The name Dutch Currahees referred to Currahee Mountain, the last mountain in the Blue Ridge chain of mountains. The name Currahee (war-cry of the 506th) given by the Cherokee is translated "Stands alone"; just as alone as the paratrooper who just landed in the midst of enemy territory.
Re-enactment of the Second World War period is not popular in the Netherlands unlike the surrounding countries. Because it is associated with a morbid interest in violence or with ultra right wing sympathies, certainly when re-enactment involves the "former enemy".
Nowadays the by far largest association of vintage military vehicle enthusiasts in the Netherlands has dropped its strict refusal of military uniforms and the Dutch laws make it possible now for re-enactors to possess and to carry (demilitarised) fire-arms under certain conditions.
