June 2015 I visit Iceland for a phototrip on the west and south coast. We started in Snæfellsnes Peninsula at the west coast and took a lot of pictures of Kirjufell and surrounding. During summer in Iceland it will not be complete dark at all. We had beautifull sunsets and sunrises at 02:00 am. After two nights we moved to the south coast near Vik. The weather was not stable anymore and we got a lot of rain. The sky turns gray and the weather forecast predicted not much good. We drove that day in the late afternoon in the direction of Jokulsarlon. The conditions were still rainy and there was a hard wind. On the way to Jokulsarlon a camper was blown off the road. We arrived around midnight at the beautifull glacier lake Jokulsarlon. What a amazing place! We took our photogear and went for a smal walk to the beach. When there was a clear view on the beach i was shocked. There where only a few small ice rocks on the beach. How was that possible? Disappointed we took a few pictures and walked back to the car to eat something. After one hour it suddenly stopped raining, where the weather gods in good mood? We walked back to the beach and I was shocked again, what happened? Apparently the tides were chancing and it becomes ebb. Big ice rocks off the glacier lake were sucked into the sea and come ashore. We were excited and took a lot of pictures. This is a single shot long exposure. The original raw file I developed in a dark and light exposure and were blended in Photoshop. I love the way the light of the rocks and the waves forms a contrast with the black beach. Hope you like it.
