Oh Royal Iris! London

Recently I visited the 'Royal Iris' – the Mersey ferry rusting away on the Thames - at night. I prepared myself with the Thames tide table - very important! - and some shoe/trouser precautions against the muddy banks. Big fun, quite eerie though. Didn't really enjoy walking past between the ship and the river to take this shot... The MV Royal Iris (1950) is a twin screw, diesel-electric, Mersey Ferry (Liverpool). The Beatles played on it, Queen Elizabeth sailed on it. Quite a history. Since 2002, the vessel has been laid up in a berth on the River Thames, close to the Thames Barrier in Woolwich. As of 2022, the ship continues to sit derelict and half submerged at its moorings. You see the Woolwich Ferry Pier, north & south in the background. It's always nice to visit and shoot something different and a challenging location! R
