Church of the Birth of Christ

HERO-CITY PARK is situated in the south of St. Petersburg, between Pulkovskoe Highway, Moscovskoe Highway and Dunaysky Avenue. It was laid out on the site of orchards and vegetable gardens in 1972-80 and had an area of 25 hectares. In the centre there is a pond with islands. Memorial pillboxes from the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 are preserved in the northern part of the park. It has a system of paths, which run from Victory Square and combine with a system of paths around the pond. The park is planted with young foliage and fruit trees and has numerous flower beds. It is used as a recreational area. Its ecology suffers heavily from its location between highways with intense car traffic. At the moment an entertainment and sport centre are going to be build on the park territory.
