Eeneiige tweeling Justia en Jessica 1

Justia (rechts) en Jessica zijn enorm aan elkaar verknocht en gezien hun geschiedenis is dat geen wonder. Toen ze 5 jaar waren, overleed hun moeder bij een auto-ongeluk. Vader kon niet voor de meisjes zorgen en ze kwamen in een pleeggezin terecht waar al 4 kinderen waren en waar later nog een zusje werd geboren. Justia is de oudste, maar ze hebben tot hun 15e gedacht dat Jessica de oudste is. Veel was onbekend vanwege hun verleden. Nu zijn ze 65. Ze zijn beiden kunstenares geworden en houden van kleur en vrolijkheid. In januari fotografeerde ik ze ook al, maar ze hebben me om een tweede ronde gevraagd omdat er nogal wat gebeurd is in de tussentijd. Justia bleek een kleine tumor op de buitenkant van haar maag hebben. Die moest verwijderd worden en dat is met succes gebeurd. Maar de chemotherapie en de bestraling die ze daarbij kreeg, hebben veel verwoest in haar lichaam. In haar darmen zijn gaatjes ontstaan en grote problemen met de afvoer van gal en alvleeskliersappen. Ze is twee keer in coma geweest, heeft een inwendige bloeding en een bloedvergiftiging gehad en is vijf keer geopereerd. Ruim een maand heeft ze op de I.C van het Antoni van Leeuwenhoekziekenhuis doorgebracht en in totaal ligt ze nu al vier maanden in dat ziekenhuis. Ze is twintig kilo afgevallen en om haar spijsverteringskanaal te laten herstellen zal ze nog drie tot zes maanden niet kunnen eten. Justia heeft een vrolijke natuur en ze is sterk, maar de traumatische gebeurtenissen beginnen haar geestkracht in te halen. Voor tweelingzus Jessica is de situatie ook erg zwaar. Ze vertelde me dat ze heel lichamelijk met haar zus meeleeft. Ook zij vindt het moeilijk om haar vrolijke natuur trouw te blijven. Het was hartverscheurend om de pijn van de zussen te zien, vooral hoe hun altijd zo vanzelfsprekende vrolijkheid achter een dikke wolk leek te zitten. Maar af en toe kwam hij gelukkig weer even terug. Justia (right) and Jessica are very close to each other and considering their history that is no wonder. Justia is the eldest, but until they were 15 they thought that Jessica was the eldest. Much was unknown because of their past. Now they are 65. They have both become artists and love color and cheerfulness. I also photographed them in January, but they asked me for a second round because quite a lot had happened in the meantime. Justia appeared to have a small tumor on the outside of her stomach. It had to be removed and that happened successfully. But the chemotherapy and the radiation that she received as a result have devastated a lot in her body. Holes have developed in her intestines and major problems with the drainage of bile and pancreas juices. She has been in a coma twice, has had internal bleeding and blood poisoning and has undergone five operations. She spent more than a month at the I.C of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital and has been in that hospital for four months now. She has lost twenty kilos and to recover her digestive tract she will not be able to eat for three to six months. Justia has a cheerful nature and she is strong, but the traumatic events are starting to catch up with her spirit. The situation is also very difficult for twin sister Jessica. She told me that she sympathizes really physically with her sister. She also finds it difficult to remain faithful to her cheerful nature. It was heartbreaking to see the pain of the sisters, especially how their always so obvious cheerfulness seemed to be behind a thick cloud. But luckily it came back from time to time.
